In depth / what makes a workshop work

A workshop is a decision-making instrument.

The point of a workshop isn't to discuss. It's to converge. Good facilitation balances divergent thinking (so everyone's ideas land) with disciplined convergence (so the day produces a decision a leader can defend on Monday).

Outcome first

We design backwards from the deliverable: what does the team need to leave the room with? Then we choose exercises that get there — not exercises we happen to like.

Right people, right size

Eight to fourteen is the sweet spot for most strategic workshops. Too few and you miss perspectives; too many and nothing gets decided. We help shape the invite list.

    A short call to define exactly what the day must produce and who must own it.

  2. Design

    A bespoke agenda — exercises, timings, materials, decisions — designed around the outcome.

  3. Pre-work

    Pre-reads, surveys or interviews so the room starts informed, not from scratch.

  4. Facilitate

    On the day — in Birmingham, at your office or remotely — by a senior facilitator.

  5. Document

    Written output and decisions circulated within 48 hours, with owners and next steps.

Where do you run workshops? At our Birmingham studio, at your office, off-site at a venue you choose, or remotely on Miro/Mural. We'll recommend the right setting for the outcome.
How many people should attend? Usually eight to fourteen for strategic sessions. We'll help shape the invite list to balance perspectives and decision-making.
Do you use any specific frameworks? We're framework-fluent (JTBD, Lean, Design Sprints, opportunity-solution trees) but we don't worship them. The outcome dictates the method.
Will we get a written output? Always — circulated within 48 hours. The day produces a decision; the document records it.
Can you train our team to run their own? Yes — facilitation training is a separate engagement we run for in-house marketing, brand and product teams.
