From strategy to sales: a 90-day SEO plan that compounds
Most SEO plans are either too vague (“publish more content”) or too tactical (“fix the H1 on /about”). Neither produces revenue. What does produce revenue is a sequenced 90-day plan that moves from diagnosis to authority to conversion, in that order — and respects the fact that SEO compounds, but only if you start with the right foundations.
Here’s the exact 90-day structure we use with new SEO clients. Steal it, adapt it, but follow the sequence.
Days 1–15: Diagnosis & foundations
Skip this and the rest of the plan collapses. You can’t optimise what you haven’t measured, and you can’t rank what Google can’t crawl properly.
What gets done
- Full technical audit — crawl errors, indexation, Core Web Vitals, schema
- Analytics & Search Console clean-up — events, conversions, goals correctly tracking
- Baseline reporting — current rankings, traffic, revenue from organic
- Competitor gap analysis — what they rank for that you don’t
- Keyword universe mapped to buyer intent stages
The deliverable
A prioritised action list, not a 60-page PDF. Three categories: must-fix (now), should-fix (this quarter), nice-to-have (later).
Days 16–30: Quick technical wins
This is where you fix the leaks before pouring water in. Most sites have 20–40 fixable issues sitting between them and 30% more organic traffic, with zero new content.
- Speed: image optimisation, font loading, lazy loading, render-blocking scripts
- Indexation: noindex audits, canonical fixes, sitemap hygiene
- Internal linking: orphan pages connected, anchor text strengthened
- Schema: organisation, article, FAQ, breadcrumb — the basics every site needs
- Existing content: top 20 underperforming pages refreshed and re-promoted
Days 31–60: Content production sprint
With foundations solid, you finally earn the right to produce new content. The goal isn’t volume — it’s authority on three to five core topics that map to your highest-margin services.
The sprint structure
- Pick 3 pillar topics aligned to revenue
- For each, plan 1 pillar page + 5–8 supporting articles
- Brief writers with intent, structure, internal links and quotes/data to include
- Edit ruthlessly — on-brand voice, factual accuracy, original perspective
- Publish, internally link, distribute through email and social
By day 60, you should have 8–15 pieces of substantive content live, fully interlinked, and visible in Search Console.
Days 61–75: Authority & off-page
Content without authority sits on page two. The next sprint is about earning links and citations — the things Google still uses to decide who deserves to rank.
- Digital PR campaigns based on original data or strong opinions
- Targeted guest contributions on respected, topic-aligned publications
- Podcast appearances — underrated link and brand-mention source
- Existing-relationship outreach — partners, customers, vendors
- Local citation hygiene if local search matters to you
Days 76–90: Conversion & reporting
Rankings are leading indicators. Revenue is the only lagging indicator that matters. The final two weeks tie SEO directly to pipeline.
What gets done
- Conversion review — are organic visitors actually converting?
- Page-level CRO — CTAs, lead magnets, on-page forms on top organic pages
- Sales enablement — package new content for sales reps to send prospects
- Reporting reset — revenue-attribution dashboard, not vanity-metric slideshows
- Next-quarter plan — what to scale, what to drop, what to test
The honest expectations
You won’t see a hockey-stick at day 90. What you will see: technical health restored, content velocity established, the first few new pieces ranking, and your reporting telling you the truth. That’s the platform on which months 4–12 actually compound.
Most SEO programmes fail because clients stop at day 90 and conclude it didn’t work. The ones that keep going usually look back at year two and wonder how they ever ran their business without it.
